Not many records are found about how Frankincense impacted ancient Judaism, but it has been mentioned in the book of exodus that when God spoke to Moses [peace be upon him], he told him to "Take unto yourself sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; these sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight: And you shall make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together [salted], pure and holy", in which we can conclude that it is indeed been used for many years before Christ and has been prescribed to profits like Moses [peace be upon him].

Many Christians have heard the story where the three wise men came and visited infant Jesus with the three gifts of Gold, Myrrh, and Frankincense that is recorded in the Gospel of Matthew. These items in particular were given to royalty and the high class of the time, and are considered to be the highest form of gifts anyone could give. Frankincense is mentioned in the Holy Bible 22 times and Christians believe in the symbolism Frankincense resin reflects, that is when the resin is burnt, it symbolizes the sacrifice of Jesus Christ [peace be upon him], the incorruptibility of god (because resin that is burned never goes bad), and when the smoke arises from the burning resin it symbolizes the soul leaving the body.
